Obesity: The Canadian perspective.
Abstract: Dr. David Keast explores the complex relationship between obesity and secondary lymphedema in Canada. With rising obesity rates, particularly Class III obesity, the article underscores that obesity-related lymphedema remains under-recognized and undertreated, contributing significantly to healthcare burdens. Keast presents data from two Canadian studies that highlight high obesity rates among lymphedema patients, with a marked prevalence of lower extremity lymphedema in individuals with Class III obesity. The article calls for targeted management approaches, including weight management, exercise, and better awareness to address the needs of this growing patient demographic.
